No Flush Niacin, whose technical name inositol hexaniacinate, has been shown to exert the benefits of niacin without flushing or other side effects. It has been used in Europe for over 30 years to lower cholesterol and improve blood flow.
Inositol hexaniacinate (also referred to as hexanicotinate) is a special form of niacin composed of six nicotinic acid molecules bound to and surrounding one molecule of inositol, an unofficial member of the B vitamin group. Used in Europe to not only to lower cholesterol but also to improve blood flow in the treatment of intermittent claudication (a painful cramp in the calf produced when walking as a result of decreased oxygen supply to the calf muscle) and Raynaud's phenomenon (a painful response of the hands or feet to cold exposure due to constriction of blood vessels supplying the hands).
A recent study in the American Journal of Cardiology showed niacin's effectiveness for raising HDL cholesterol: "In a head-to-head comparison study, niacin 2,000 mg/day increased HDL-C more than gemfibrozil 1,200 mg/day, and decreased the total cholesterol-to-HDL-C ration, lipoprotein(a) and fibrinogen levels significantly more."
