A big, beautiful early yellowware bowl, 19th century (unmarked, un-banded, un-footed, i.e. the very best sort I think) made special by a fat old wire repair along the lip, backed by what I believe is a now much hardened piece of leather on the outside, which looks to be the remnant of what was once a strip that ran all along the crack, leaving a stain behind. I find it all very beautiful, with the character of the repair perfectly matching the character of the bowl, and with the color of the bowl itself much richer for the 150 years or so on it. I'd find a proud spot for it and keep it filled with fruits of the forest throughout the year --or fruits of the sea!
15" in diameter x 5" tall. Hairline crack and repair as evident, which is much of what I love about it. Seems very stable and sturdy now.
