Pat Metheny, one of the world's greatest guitarists, has been active at the forefront of not only the jazz genre but also all kinds of music for more than 30 years, transcending the boundaries of genres. The first album of the "SIDE-EYE Project," in which he invites highly acclaimed and up-and-coming musicians to perform new interpretations of past songs and new songs with new members, has finally been released! Pat Metheny, the world's greatest guitarist, has been active at the forefront of not only the jazz genre but also all kinds of music for more than 30 years, transcending the boundaries of genres. In "ROAD TO THE SUN" released in March of this year, he explored the possibilities of being "Pat Metheny the Composer," and has already completed a new project album. SIDE-EYE NYC" is an album from Metheny's new endeavor, the "SIDE EYE Project. The project invites the most exciting, innovative, and up-and-coming young artists and up-and-comers, whom Metheny highly values, to perform new interpretations of past songs and new songs for the new members. Many fans will remember their performance in Japan in January 2019 with James Francies & Nate Smith in the "Side Eye" configuration. The album features four live recordings and four studio recordings, recorded in New York City just before the pandemic brought the U.S. to a lockdown. In addition to Metheny, the parsonnel for the album is the phenomenally talented pianist/organist/keyboardist James Francies and Marcus Gilmore on drums. With them, Metheny performs new originals as well as creative reworkings of some of the most popular songs in Metheny's repertoire, including "Timeline," which he once performed with Michael Brecker and Elvin Jones. From post-organ trio grooves to expansive suites to rocking sounds, Metheny again seamlessly jumps between genres with a group of young players who grew up with and are heavily influenced by his music.
