Description:

This is the first album by Dai Miyata, a very promising newcomer in the cello world. In 2009, Dai Miyata, a 25-year-old cellist with a promising future, won the 9th International Rostropovich Cello Competition organized by the City of Paris, which is considered the pinnacle of international music competitions in the cello category, and has quickly risen to the top of the world's attention. The program includes cello sonatas by Debussy and R. Strauss, Popper's "Hungarian Rhapsody" and Rachmaninoff's "Vocalise," and concludes with "Flight of the Bumblebee. All pieces were selected by Dai Miyata himself. The recording was made at the Karuizawa Ohga Hall. As shown in the recently broadcast documentary program "A Quartet in the Name of Youth," Dai Miyata studied abroad in Europe and devoted himself to the quartet during his impressionable years, and after winning an international competition, he has experienced many world stages as a soloist. The quartet immediately grasped the characteristics of Ohga Hall and played music on a scale as large as its name, making the hall ring from corner to corner. The instrument used is the Testore (made in 1746), which was the favorite instrument of the late Hideo Saito (1902-1974), and is a famous cello instrument that has been lent to Hideo Saito's direct pupils and grandchildren. The cello is an instrument that cannot be fooled by tricks or effects. If you try to play it pretentiously, it will sound tacky. The best way to play the cello is to play naturally, without going against the gravitational pull of the earth. Miyata's words sum up the charm of his playing. He and pianist Ryosuke Yanagihara, with whom he has been collaborating for the past two years, have been pursuing an ideal duo, "We inspire each other and naturally aim in the same direction. The piano is also a wonderful instrument, and the beginning of Popper's and Strauss' works will convince you of its excellence.
