This embellished caftan/shift dress was probably a tourist-oriented souvenir piece from a trip to the Middle East. It is simply made - just one piece of fabric, sewn at the side seams with 10" side slits. There are no facings - the neckline is finished with tight zigzag-type stitching. So a basic dress. But the Egyptian motif embellishments are very fun! There is a lot of surface painting, mostly in gold with some green and a bit of blue and a bit of black. The faux collar that wraps around the neckline uses a lot of sequins and beads with a scattering of faux pearls. The pharaoh figure looks a lot like King Tut, and is also adorned in sequins with some faux pearl pendants. There is a large lotus flower, and an Aten (sun disk) further down, flanked by two herons. And near the hem, two camels amid palm trees and a row of pyramids. And of course more sequins.
