Wowie, this coat! It dates to the 1920s, and has a straight cut silhouette. The sleeves are deep at the armholes, ala batwing, and are ruched from elbow to cuff. The large and dramatic shawl collar gathers onto the vee-neckline. The edge of the collar is accented by 1 3.5" deep black and gold lame ruffle that peeks out from underneath. The coat wraps in front.
SIZE: No size label. The measurements suggest a small size, but I wear a modern size 12, and the coat was a fairly reasonable fit as long as I didn't button it. Measurements taken with coat buttoned.

FABRIC/COLORS: Luxurious black velvet, silk per my fiber burn test. The glittery trim is a light weight floral pattern of gold lame and black. The coat is fully lined in cream colored satin - the satin has cotton flannel backing.

CLOSURES: The coat closes with a single round self-fabric button that fastens with a loop just below the bottom of the shawl collar, which is nearly at waist level.
CONDITION: I have restitched a few areas where the lining was coming loose from the coat - this was seam work only, not involving fabric. No other issues noted - no stain, holes, tear or odors.
