Description:
François Aubert was one of the composers who established the pinnacle of French Romantic opera. Although he composed some 50 operas during his lifetime and was so highly acclaimed at the Paris Opera at the time that his popularity was split in two with Wagner, his work has been completely forgotten today. However, the operas are full of splendor and energetic style, with not only excellent characterizations of the characters, but also stylish music in the style of dances scattered throughout the operas. This album contains overtures and interludes from seven operas, and even without singing, the colorful Rossini-style melodies and orchestration alone give a glimpse of the splendor of Aubert's work. The performance is by the Czech Chamber Orchestra Pardovice, conducted by conductor Dario Salvi, who is also a rare opera researcher. The rustic sound enhances the work. Naxos Japan
